Injection treatments in dentistry

Injection treatments are used in dentistry to improve “gummy smiles” and to treat muscle and jaw disorders.  The scope of injection treatments has now broadened to include anti-wrinkle and lip enhancement treatments.  Dr Weston Draper and Dr Jenifer Jiang are able to offer treatments that seek to improve the overall facial aesthetic and complete a dental cosmetic makeover.

Treatment areas

Such treatments include:

  • Anti-wrinkle injections/treatments for the lips and face,
  • Lip enhancement.
  • Volume loss/correction.

MC Dental aims to promote a realistic understanding of what is achievable with cosmetic injections as well as providing complete transparency over the costs involved.  In keeping with this, we encourage you to book a complimentary 20 minute consultation with Dr Draper or Dr Jiang to discuss the treatment options, costs and their suitability on an individual basis.  It’s a private, confidential and friendly approach to inform you of the possibilities.

Our philosophy is not to push treatments, but to listen to our patients and discuss with them the potential to achieve a desired result.  If you wish to find out more about cosmetic injections from Dr Draper or Dr Jiang, phone the clinic on (03) 8608 8968 and express your interest in a complimentary cosmetic consultation.  We welcome your inquiry.

Teeth whitening is the most common cosmetic dentistry procedure today. There are two main methods of teeth whitening - in office whitening and take-home kits. The two methods can be combined to maximize the whitening effect.

What causes discoloured or stained teeth?

Both lifestyle factors and structural tooth faults can contribute to stained teeth, including:

  • Natural aging of teeth
  • Bacterial pigments
  • Food and/or drink (such as coffee, tea, wine and food colouring)
  • Tobacco/smoking
  • Certain antibiotics

Get whiter teeth in one hour with MC Dental.

At MC Dental we use the Zoom!™ In-Office Whitening System - a revolutionary tooth whitening procedure. It's safe, effective and fast, and in just over an hour, your teeth will be dramatically whiter. Zoom!™ Whitening is ideal for anyone looking for immediate results.

The convenience of Zoom!™ in comparison to days of wearing trays and gradual whitening makes it the perfect choice for busy individuals. About one fifth of patients experience heightened tooth sensitivity after whitening (especially after in-office whitening). However, this is highly dependent on individual tooth condition.

Unlike a dental crown that covers the entire tooth, a porcelain veneer is a thin covering of porcelain that is glued over the front (visible) part of the tooth. Veneers are commonly used in cosmetic dentistry to improve the aesthetics of teeth imperfections.

Porcelain veneers can correct:

  • uneven or crooked teeth
  • tooth shapes that are out of proportion
  • stained or yellow teeth that cannot be whitened
  • smiles with too much gum showing
  • sensitive teeth
  • worn down or old looking teeth

How are veneers fitted?

The dentist removes a small amount of enamel from the front and sides of the tooth, which makes room for the veneer and prevents the restored tooth from feeling or looking bulky or unnatural. An impression of the prepared teeth is then made, colour-matched by shade, and sent to the lab for the veneers to be made.

At the next visit, the veneers will be tried on the teeth to check for correct fit and shape. After any adjustments, the teeth are cleaned and the porcelain veneers are bonded to the teeth with dental cement.

A second option, resin-based composite veneers, is available at MC Dental can be fitted in a single appointment. After the tooth is prepared or reshaped, the composite material (colour-matched to your other teeth) is bonded and sculpted onto the teeth. A special light is used to harden the composite, and the veneer smoothed and polished to look like a natural tooth. This type of veneer is not as long lasting or aesthetically pleasing as the porcelain option.

Benefit of porcelain veneers

There are many benefit to porcelains, mainly to give your teeth a healthy and natural appearance. The translucent and glass like appearance of porcelain veneers is undetectable and natural looking compared to other bonding techniques. The laminate takes on the natural shape of the tooth and due to the heat-fired ceramic, is resistant to coffee, tea or even cigarette stains.

Crown and bridge dentistry is used to repair or replace defective or missing teeth. This may be due to trauma, decay, and post- root canal treatment, or for aesthetic purposes.

Crowns
Crowns are caps that are permanently bonded to a damaged tooth. In many of these cases, and especially after root canal treatment, a crown is often the best way to save a tooth and strengthen it. The crown fits over the core of the tooth and replaces the natural crown, the part of the tooth that can be seen above the gums.
Crowns are covered in a thin layer of colour-matched porcelain to mask the repair and match the look of your existing teeth.

Bridges
Bridges are one way of replacing one or more missing teeth, without the use of a denture or dental implant. The procedure is very similar to the crown preparation but involves more teeth. In basic terms, it is a false tooth being held in place by a tooth next door.
